The many faces of the Dragons

News-55-cover

It started on Saturday in Dortmund. Our Second team played against the local Red and White team. Although the Dragons II showed some good rugby and were quite aggressive in defence, the players of the RFC Dortmund were stronger and won that game with a final score of 47:5. Quite a disappointing result for our team who did not manage to find solutions to counter the pressure and attacks from their opponents.

On a positive note in Dortmund, three of our women's players were playing in the 15th women's Rugby team known as the Dortmund Rugby Ruckoons. We can congratulate our women as they helped their team to win the game against the RC Rottweil with a solid score of 45:5.

The second face of the Dragons was showed by our First Team during their home game on Sunday. From the start of this game against the SC Frankfurt 1880 II, it was clear that the visiting team would not have an easy one. The Dragons showed a very strong and aggressive defence and applied their rugby structure making their offensive moves quite efficient. But what stroke the most was the spirit of the team that never gave up even when put under great pressure by the Frankfurt players. With a try scored by Björn Müller and converted by Hugo Bailly, the first half ended with a score of only 7 to 8 for Frankfurt. The second half started better for the Frankfurt's team which managed to score 2 tries, but the Dragons regrouped and managed to contain their opponents and even score another try by William O'Loughlin to end the game at 12 points to 20. Although the game ended as a loss for Düsseldorf, all players of the Dragons' First Team who were on the pitch this Sunday can be proud of their performance. They showed what a group of individuals can do when working together as a team with full commitment against a very strong opponent.
