The first NRW children‘s tournament in Düsseldorf

On Sunday the 15th of May 2022, more than 160 children participated in the first NRW children's tournament that was hosted at our club facilities. Many teams from various cities around Düsseldorf came to compete for a brilliant day of rugby.
The day was a big success for the Dragons on the pitch, with our two U8 teams finishing in first and second place. First place was also taken by a motivated U10 team, eager to win at home. The official U10 matches were followed by a spontaneously organised friendly match, played by two mixed teams from various clubs. The match was played with great enthusiasm and ended in a draw. A wonderful rugby moment!

For our U12 team, this tournament had great importance as it was the last chance to play competitively in preparation for the upcoming German U12 Rugby Championship in Berlin. Our U12 played well, but could not secure the win against a stronger team of RSV Köln and earned a good second place in the tournament.

The day was tougher for our U14, who joined with players from RC Aachen, to play two long games in very warm weather conditions. They finished in third position of the three teams present but nonetheless had a lot of fun while also gaining more experience.

The tournament took place on a beautiful hot and sunny day and players and spectators alike could enjoy the food and drinks prepared for them. The burger stand was a great success, but not as popular as the delicious ice cream provided by well-received local ice cream makers Ghirloni 😊.

A special thank you goes out to all the parents and children who contributed to make this event a success by handling the grill, serving food and drinks, selling our Dragons gear, providing cakes for our fundraiser, selling ice cream, etc., all of you helped to make this a memorable event for everyone. Thank you again!

Speaking of cakes and ice cream: many were sold, which helped to raise funds for our special Rugby Discovery Day for Ukrainian families and children that will take place on Sunday the 19th of June 2022. A special thank you to everyone involved as your contribution will allow us to organise another great day at the club!
