The Dragons at the U12 Rugby German Championship 2024

This weekend, 21 players of our U12 team travelled to Frankfurt-Riedberg to participate in the U12 Rugby German Championship against 16 other teams from all over Germany.
After a 3-hour animated drive in mini-vans, the team supported by many parents established its base on the side of the Sportclub Riedberg Rugby pitch.

In the first day, the young Dragons had to play three pool games against the RG Heidelberg 1898 e.V., the Rugby Klub Heusenstamm and the Hamburger Rugby-Club von 1950 e.V. Despite the efforts of the team and the tries scored, the Dragons did not manage to win any of these games and ended in the last position of their group.

Nevertheless, the moral was still up during the evening grill party.
Both children, trainers and parents could then enjoy a well-deserved good night of rest.

On the second day, the Düsseldorf players had to play 4 games against the teams which ended last of their respective groups: the FC St Pauli, the TSV Victoria Linden, an association of the HRK, RCR, KSV, TBN, SRC and the SG Rhein-Main Barbarians.
The Dragons showed some improvement in their game and team work, but still faced stronger teams and did not manage to win their first three games, although the score were much tighter.
It is in the last game against the SG Rhein-Main Barbarians, supported by all their parents and friends, that they finally found some keys and managed to secure one win, allowing them not to finish last of the tournament.

No need to say that after the physical effort from all involved players and the roller-coaster of emotions they lived during these two days, the return drive was much quieter. Anyhow, the smile on their faces at arrival time showed that they all enjoyed their weekend, they all learnt a lot and they all came back full of motivation for the next season.

We take the chance to thank all parents who supported the organisation of this great week-end and the trainers who managed to allow every player to get the chance to play and feel involved in the team.
