First participation in the German U12 Rugby Championship

On Friday the 20th of May, our U12 players took the train to Berlin where the German U12 Rugby Championship was to take place.
It was at the club of the Berliner SV 1892 that 15 teams from all over Germany met to compete for the U12 German Championship title at a very well organised two-day event.

On the first day, our Dragons began the tournament by playing against the strong team of HRK 1872. This very competitive and well-organised team demonstrated a very high level of rugby, which our Dragons struggled to compete against. Despite the points scored against them, our U12 Dragons kept up the fight until the very end of the match. Their second game against SC Riedberg Rugby was similarly tough, although our team started to play with better organisation and a stronger defence.
The players enjoyed the rest of the day watching other teams play, trying to find ways to improve their own game.

With some adjustments in team strategy, the Dragons started their second day against another strong team of RC Unterföhring. This game could be considered as the start of a very determined team effort as our Dragons showed good interaction, giving their strong opponents a very hard time, who finally managed to score only two tries.

That improved team effort could then be observed during the next two games which our Dragons managed to win against the teams of RC Dresden and FC St Pauli 1910 Rugby. A much improved organisation of their defensive line, stronger tackles and more structure in their attack moves allowed the team to finish the tournament in 13th place.

Ultimately, this first participation in the German U12 Rugby Championship was a tremendous success. All involved players had the chance to experience a fantastic adventure that brought the team closer together and created wonderful memories that they will surely enjoy for a long time. They all came back inspired, pumped up, ready to train more and prepare themselves even better to become a more competitive team.

We are looking forward to seeing them in action again soon!

A special thank you to the parents who made the trip and helped us with the organisation of this event. The smile on all the children's faces on their way back home proves the success of our participation in this significant tournament.

Another special thank you to our host Berliner SV 1892, who welcomed us to best conditions and made the whole team feel very comfortable during the two days of the tournament.

Some photos of this special event can be discovered in our photo gallery on the Dragons homepage.
