A good weekend to be a Dragon

News 85-cover

It started on Saturday morning in Bonn with a U8/U10/U12 children tournament. Our young players made a big impression, particularly our U10 players who won all their games and thus managed to win the U10 tournament. Congratulations to all the involved players for such a great achievement.
Our U8 and U12 players also played well and enjoyed a very nice day of rugby.

The day continued with our U18 and U16 players who had to play in Aachen. After a hard-fought game, our U18s won with a narrow score of 15:14 against the Oysters/Ducks/Vets. This game was followed by our U16 game against the Waterweg Warriors, which they won 64-0 thanks to great teamwork. Our young generation can be proud of their work on the pitch. Thanks to all helpers in Aachen for the great welcome.

In the afternoon, the men's team received the GRC Essen. Since they lost two weeks ago in Essen with 7:27, the Dragons were out for revenge on this day. Just in time for the start of the game, the sky opened its floodgates and what was previously recognizable as a rugby field, turned into a lake plateau within a few minutes. The dream of every rugby player. Accordingly, no technically demanding game was possible and many handling errors happened on both sides, which ended in a series of scrums. In the end, however, the Dragons managed to put the ball down twice in the Esseners' penalty area in the first half. Halftime score 10:0. After the break, the Esseners got into the game a little better, but the defence withstood the pressure. Two more tries - this time increased - extended the score to 24:0. Ten minutes before the end, Essen was able to score a try of honour. However, this did not change the outcome of the game: the long awaited four points + bonus point for four scored tries. The boys want to take the momentum with them in two weeks, when they also receive the SG Dortmund/Bochum at home.

On Sunday, most of the Dragons were in front of their TV to watch the game opposing the German National team to the Dutch National team in Amsterdam. Although the final result was not in favour of the German team, we were all proud to support Felix Lammers (who made his debut at the Düsseldorf Dragons) for his first captaincy of the German National Team. Congratulations to him for this great achievement and the great try he scored during the game.
