A derby victory for the Dragons

On Saturday, 17th February 2024, our men's team welcomed RSV Köln 2 for the first game of the second half of the season in the Regionalliga NRW Group B at Oberlöricker Straße.

After a long winter break in which we were able to prepare intensely for the second half of the season and with the result from the first half of the season in mind, they definitely wanted to emerge from this derby as winners.
Due to these circumstances they were aggressive in defence from the start, made tough tackles and pinned the Cologne team in their own half. From the resulting possession they took a 3-0 lead thanks to a penalty kick from René Rösgen. Afterwards Cologne managed to get more into the game and was able to score a converted try to make it 3:7. However, our Dragons were not impressed by this and continued to play in the intended structure. Accordingly, it was not surprising that our hooker, Trent Giglio, was able to tank his way into the end zone twice in an irresistible manner. Both tries were converted by René Rösgen so that the halftime score was 17:7.In the second half both teams tried to influence the score to their favour, but it always ended a few meters before both end zones. Our Dragons, who already made extensive use of their substitution contingent during the game break, defended their lead with a lot of heart and passion until the very end.
No surprise, when the final whistle was blown by referee Tom Binns, everybody was extremely happy about the first win of the season and the derby victory!
